Instead of avoiding a rough personality, have you ever tried to find what is good in it?

It is often said that the best light for photography is found in the morning, early evening, or on overcast days with high clouds. That may be true—but not always. What about the middle of a cloudless day? What if the goal is to express something other than softness?

There is beauty in everything, if we are willing to look closely. Just as one might search for good qualities in someone rough around the edges, I look for beauty in hard light.

For this series, I chose bright, specular light, deep shadows, and a harsh setting. Yes, it is harsh—but it is also exquisite.
