The Wave, on the Utah–Arizona border, is a delicate ravine carved into swirling sandstone. Iron deposits have stained the rock with rich yellows, pinks and reds over millions of years. Only twenty people are allowed to visit daily.
When I first saw photos of it, I was amazed such a place could exist. But by the time I went, I had seen so many colour images that the wonder had faded. That's why I chose to show it in black and white—to restore some mystery.
